SMC composite material stands for Sheet Molding Compound. Composed of GF (special yarn), UP (unsaturated resin), low shrinkage additives, MD (filler), and various other additives, it was first conceptualized in Europe in the 1960s. By 1965, it had gained traction in the US and Japan, with China adopting the technology in the late 80s. SMC composites boast superior electrical insulation, mechanical strength, thermal stability, and chemical resistance, making them widely applicable. The trend is shifting towards SMC composites surpassing BMC materials.
